Drawing about sushi and city of Helsinki

Creating a website from scratch can be a rewarding yet challenging experience, especially when the primary goal is learning. In this case study, we explore the journey of developing SushiHelsinki.fi, a sushi restaurant website for listing and reviewing sushi restaurants in Helsinki. This project was undertaken to sharpen our data-driven content creation skills, experiment with new technologies, and understand the end-to-end process of bringing a website to life.

Objectives of the project

  1. Responsive Design: We aimed to create a fully responsive website that offers a seamless experience across various devices, from desktops to mobile phones.
  2. SEO Optimization: Understanding the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and applying them to ensure the website ranks well in search results.
  3. User Experience (UX) Focus: We wanted to learn about designing intuitive interfaces and providing a great user experience.

Initial results: 40-60 daily users four months after the launch

The website was launched in early May. In July we launched our first restaurant pages. This seemed to have a very positive effect on organic search traffic.
